Canadian educators recognized for iNACOL Innovation Award
MONTREAL, November 12, 2014
The Navigate Program of the North Island Distance Education School (NIDES, School District No. 71, Vancouver Island http://www.navigatenides.com/) was awarded the 2014 iNACOL Innovative Blended and Online Learning Practice Award at last week’s Annual Symposium held in Palm Springs, CA. The iNACOL (International Association for K-12 Online Learning http://www.inacol.org/members/awards/) Innovator Awards recognize learning practices, new research and individual achievements in the field of blended and online learning.
“It is with great pride that we applaud the Navigate Program as recipient for the Innovative Blended and Online Learning Practice Award. We congratulate everyone with The Navigate Program who are very deserving of this honour”, said Randy LaBonte, CEO of CANeLearn. Jeff Stewart, District Principal, was proud of the Navigate team’s efforts. “The award clearly spoke to the diverse innovative programs that Navigate has developed these past years including the ENTER program, Fine Arts eCademy, iClass K-12, Leadership Program, VEX Robotics and our Independent Learning Centres in the three secondary schools. Our blended programs are a result of the creative capacity and hard work of our staff and support from the entire community including our parents, PAC Executive, and school district senior administration.”
“This is the third year in a row that Canadians have been presented awards at the annual iNACOL symposium”, said Michael Canuel, Canadian eLearning Network Board Chair and CEO of LEARN (http://learnquebec.ca/). “In 2012 Peggy Drolet and Audrey McGoldrick from LEARN were recognized for an innovation award and in 2013 our own Verena Roberts, CANeLearn Chief Innovation Officer, was a co-recipient of the Innovative Blended and Online Learning Practice Award in recognition of her work in creating The Open Classroom while at the Alberta Distance Learning Centre (http://www.adlc.ca/).”
Other CANeLearn nominees for iNACOL awards were: Josh Gray from the Thames Valley District School Board, London ON; Michael Barbour (Canadian researcher); and Maurice Barry of the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation, St. John NL.
