State of the Nation: K-12 E-Learning in Canada – Individual Program Survey

In the past few days, the State of the Nation: K-12 e-learning in Canada research team has begun to solicit responses to the annual individual program survey.

In contacting individual K-12 distance, online and blended learning programs, the team indicated that the State of the Nation: K-12 e-learning in Canada research project (see http://k12sotn.ca/ ), conducted in association with the Canadian eLearning Network (see http://CANeLearn.net ), began in 2008 and documents the state of Canadian K-12 distance, online, and blended learning; and proposes an agenda for the further improvement of e-learning in Canada.  The research and its publications provide a comprehensive guide for those involved in the field of education in Canada who are interested in or involved with K-12 online learning.  More information about the research can be found at the end of this email.

We are seeking involvement fromindividual K-12 distance, online and blended learning programs to assist us with this research.  Below you will find a link to an individual program survey:

The survey contains 11 questions about individual program offerings for the 2015-16 school year.  The information provided will be used to augment information collected from your provincial Ministry of Education.

The results of each administration of the individual program survey are available on the State of the Nation: K-12 e-learning in Canada project website.

  • Scroll down and all of the data for your jurisdiction is listed, along with the most recent year the data was received.

Please note, for the purposes of this survey e-learning is defined to include all forms of K-12 distance and online education (i.e., correspondence, videoconferencing, and online learning), as well as identified instances of blended learning where at least some portion of education is provided in a face-to-face setting.

Michael K. Barbour is Associate Professor of Instructional Design for the College of Education and Health Sciences at Touro University California. He has been involved with K-12 online learning in a variety of countries for well over a decade as a researcher, teacher, course designer and administrator. Michael's research focuses on the effective design, delivery and support of K-12 online learning, particularly for students located in rural jurisdictions.
