Speak Up News, March 1, 2018

Our team has been busy digging through the brand new Speak Up data, working on templates for districts to use and making plans for releasing reports and infographics! We hope all of the participating districts and schools have had a chance to log in and take a look at their data (more on that below).

While we are focused on data analysis, we are also already planning for Speak Up 2018, which will open this fall. Contact registration is not yet open, but we would like to hear from districts and schools who are interested in participating. Please complete the Interest Form (below); it will also help us keep you in the loop as planning for this fall moves ahead.

Thank you again to all of our amazing partners, and especially to those of you who offered a prize to Speak Up participants! We are happy to finally announce all the winners!

Finally, Julie is on the road again this month. She’ll be speaking and sharing data at CUE, NAFIS and ASCD conferences.

Thank you for reading! Feel free to share your thoughts with us on FacebookTwitter, and our Blog.

Making Critical Thinking Real with Creative Coding, Digital Games, and Movie-Creation Tools
Sun, March 25th, 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM

Everyone from employers to educators is talking about the need for today’s students to develop effective critical thinking and problem solving skills, but few people know what that really looks like in a classroom or how to measure student competency in a meaningful way. This session is designed to take the conceptual understanding of critical thinking to a more practical reality. In a session grounded in research about employers’ expectations and educators’ challenges in this area, the presenters will use innovative digital content and games to demonstrate how students can effectively develop problem-solving muscles and how teachers can measure student competencies. Come ready to engage with digital tools and discuss pedagogy for application.
